The Political Constitution of Peru is also called “Magna Carta”. It is the supreme law of the Peruvian Republic, and it is the source of its national legislation, justice system, and regulations. Likewise, it governs the structure and organization of the Peruvian State.

The 1993 Political Constitution of Peru is currently in force in the country. All the legislation of the Republic derives from its constitutional principles. The constitution prevails over any other piece of law; its provisions are inviolable, and of compulsory enforcement by all Peruvians.
