cided majority — I have been recalled, new. Con. on my own Terms — You see
how the literary world as well as the political is subject to Corruption. But, the
press has in itself a sanative power — There are rival Annual Registers — And
any one may write that pleases — I wish, at some Convenient time, to have a
little Conversation wd. you on public Affairs — Mr. Pitt I believe, had adopted
your plan of Emancipating South America — But he was diverted from the

offended by an Emancipation of the Colonies. Thus it is still Considerations of
temporary Expediency, the interest of Courts, that prevail political, not moral
principles; though politics are best founded on moral principles. Indeed, it can
forcely expected, that should revolt the Spaniards againts as at this Crisis. It
is my business however to record, not to Legislate or Geovern. I should have
liked to have been invited for 1860 — Having been led to take a pretty close
view of some Transactions in the La Plata, of W . the public has been led to

conceive very erroneously — But I have an opportunity of reviewing the who-
le business, in a summary manner, in the History of 1807.
I have already Charlevoix’s Histoire du paraguay. But I will thank you
very much for the others you mention — Viz.
