THE REPUBLIC OF PERU

The congressional library is a parliamentary body, under the control of the Parliamentary General Directorate. It is in charge of coordinating, organizing, and executing the strategies and guidelines oriented to the research of legislative topics, in order to provide support to the parliamentary work. It also provides library services to citizens, researchers, and other scholars in line with the purpose of contributing to national development, parliamentary studies and national culture.

Objectives:

  • Plan, organize, direct, execute, supervise and examine bibliographic and document material to be included in the library, as well as their preservation, update or discard.
  • Plan, organize, direct, execute, supervise and examine the provision of library services of the congressional library, thus ensuring the provision of an optimal service as well as the proper management, preservation, update, and maintenance of library material.
  • Select and propose the acquisition of information resources in a wide range of formats, and taking part in their acquisition process.
  • Propose and execute the guidelines for the systematization of information resources and library collections.
  • Organize and provide library and information services to all users of Congress, by using cost-effectively the current information technologies.
  • Provide specialized information services to support congressional research and training.
  • Propose and supervise technical systems and processes for the maintenance and preservation of the library collections.
