The General Archive has the mission of managing, preserving, and protecting documents and book collections in its custody, safeguarding the cultural heritage of the country.
Likewise, the Archive seeks to support, and contribute efficiently in the appropriate decision-making process in the national parliament, by providing true and timely information.
The objective of the Archive is to disseminate the document collection of public nature through the Portal of the Congress, with a view to democratizing the archive services and make them available to citizens, thus facilitating their archive education, and strengthening the interplay between the citizenry and the Legislature.
It is also aimed at recovering and publicizing the Parliamentary Historical Archive, which goes as far back as 1822, and contains historical documentation, so that the citizens (our users) will strengthen their national identity, and their interest in the history of parliament.
The Archive supports the work of senior officers of parliamentary service by conducting research projects based on existing documents from the General Archive.
